What Sanford roofs are up against

Sanford sits on the south shore of Lake Monroe, and that location decides a lot. In September 2022, Hurricane Ian pushed Lake Monroe to 8.74 feet above sea level, beating a record that had stood since 1953. Water came over the seawall, across Seminole Boulevard and into the parks and lots along the RiverWalk, and stretches of that lakefront road stayed under water for two months. September 2022 finished as the wettest September on record for Sanford.

Flooding is not roof damage, but the two travel together. Plenty of the calls we take here are for leaks that started small during a storm and only showed up on a ceiling weeks later.

The other half of Sanford is the housing, and it splits two ways. About 3,700 of the city's 27,000 units predate 1960, roughly 1,500 of those going back before 1939.
